¶ Conformation
The Oldenburg was originally established to produce high-quality carriage horses and cavalry mounts. Often described as expressive in their movement; they have elegant heads; well-muscled powerful frames; high-set, muscular necks and long legs. These characteristics make them a favourite in the dressage and jumping worlds.
¶ Colour Genetics
The colours of the Oldenburg Horses include chestnut, bay, brown, black and grey. The cream allele is present but very rare in the population. White markings are quite common, and even tobiano exists within the breed. As several stallions with tobiano have been approved for breeding, the pattern is likely to persist.
Several years ago a nearly white Oldenburg foal was born. The pattern was identified as a mutation of the KIT gene and received the designation W16. As of yet, this pattern is not part of the gameplay.

Please note that the table includes a hidden agouti allele (At). Besides testable genes, there are also untestable ones present: sooty, flaxen, and white markings (head markings, socks, etc.).
¶ Artwork Updates
The Oldenburg Horse was added to the game in 2018. Ever since the current Horse Reality version has been online, the breed received/will receive the following updates:
- New coat variations (colour) on October 14th 2020[1]
- Will receive a new greyscale in the future[2]
- The missing genes and alleles will be added to the game through new Foundation horses[3][4]
- On 14th February 2024, the breed received an art update[6]
- Oldenburg horses currently do not display sooty on bay bases
- Oldenburg horses currently do not display grey on homozygous cream

¶ Breed in Real Life
The Oldenburg Horse (or Oldenburger) is a renowned breed of sport horses from Germany. The registry is partially open, accepting horses based solely on (top) quality, and putting less or no emphasis on heritage or colour. As such, the breed performs exceptionally well in disciplines like dressage and show jumping.
