The Welsh Pony is a hardy and spirited animal. The ponies have small heads with bold eyes and prominent nostrils, lengthy, well-carried necks, long, sloping shoulders, muscular backs, and long croups. Tails should be well-set and carried gaily.[1]
The Welsh Ponies come in almost all base colours: black, chestnut, bay and seal brown. The dilutions and modifiers present in this breed are cream, grey, dun, and silver. Flaxen also sometimes occurs.
On top of all these gorgeous colours, the Welsh Ponies come with a variety of white patterns as well. This breed can show up as roan, SW1, and also have white markings. Hidden white genes in the Welsh Ponies include hidden sabino and rabicano.
All alleles available for the breed can be found below highlighted in green. For better clarity, we bolded alleles that impact coat colours (eg. grey G vs non-grey g).

The Welsh Pony originates from Wales, the UK. This hardy pony lived (and some ponies still do) in the rocky areas of the country. Even though many are now known for their refined features, they have retained their sturdiness. Breeding societies try to preserve the hardy character of the breed.
The Welsh Pony is officially just one breed, but registries recognise more than one type. Therefore, the registry is split into four sections: A, B, C and D. Each has its own rules and regulations, but A & B, and C & D are very similar to each other respectively with height being the most important difference.[1] In addition, some registries recognise section K, which includes only Welsh crosses.
