Wild bay, also called light bay or low-point bay, is a shade variation of the base colour bay.
Wild bays have a reddish coat with black points (mane, tail, lower legs, and ear tips). Their coat colour is usually lighter than that of “regular” bay horses. The black pigment on the lower legs only reaches up to the pasterns or fetlocks, and the points are also often a more muted black colour, rather than pitch-black.
On Horse Reality, wild bay foals will have the same appearance as bay foals. Only once they turn into an adult will it be possible to distinguish between the shades.
Wild Bay - Various breeds | |
Since it is a variation of the base colour bay, all wild bay horses will also have at least one dominant E (extension) and A (agouti) allele. The genetic cause for the colour has not yet been discovered in real life. Wild bay has been speculated to be caused by a different agouti allele. This theory has not been proven, but in-game, wild bay is caused by the hidden A+-allele of agouti. The presence of dominant agouti can be tested at the Laboratory, but the wild bay (A+) allele is hidden and not testable and will be displayed as just A in test results.
The A+-allele is dominant over all other agouti alleles (A+ > A > At > a). This means the following genotypes will lead to wild bay:
Wild bay is quite rare and only exists in a few breeds. The following table lists all breeds that can currently have the wild bay (A+) allele in-game:
