The Retirement Home is a feature on Horse Reality that allows you to retire any horses if you can't or don't want to sell them. Gisela provides a loving home for unwanted horses of all ages. She is a non-player character who owns retirement homes on all continents.
Once you retire a horse, it transfers into Gisela's ownership. Retiring a horse is permanent. You can go to the Retirement Home via the city map or via the “Retire horse” button on the Update tab of the horse profile. Clicking it leads directly to the retirement home with the horse preselected. After you do so, you cannot get your horse back. Make sure to double-check before clicking and make sure that you have made up your mind!
Once a horse is retired you will no longer be able to care for, train, show, compete or breed with the horse. As the former owner, you will still be able to view its conformation, genetic potential and health stats. Horses continue to age in the retirement home and will eventually die of old age. Once they die, they will no longer be listed in the retirement home because Gisela only takes care of the living.

¶ Mares and Foals
Retiring a pregnant mare causes her pregnancy to get terminated – no foal will be born.
Mares with unweaned foals behave as follows:
- When retiring a foal that is less than six months old, it will no longer be displayed next to its mother on her profile or the market.
- When you retire a mare with a foal less than six months old, the foal will first stay next to its mother. Once it becomes six months old, it automatically leaves the retirement home and returns to your stable.

- Following a conformation show bug, it was briefly possible to retrieve horses from the Retirement Home as a compensation in December 2018[1][2][3]
- On January 17th 2019, some bugfixes were implemented[4]
- On May 2nd 2019, the option to change the name of retired horses was added[5]
- On September 10 2020, the Retirement Home page was moved to V2 and retired horses' stats were made visible for their previous owner[6]
- On October 14th 2020, some bugfixes were implemented[7]
- On June 28th 2023, a confirmation button when retiring a horse was added[8]
